Join us for the launch of Spiritual Pursuits and Other Stories.
Set in the four decades from 1980s to 2020s, the stories depicted the ripple effects of China’s economic success on the world. The peak of business globalization and its inevitable decline during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lien Chao has chosen an unhampered social and geographical setting to observe Canadians in the world and at home, including immigrants and refugees. She has depicted a group of new comer artists established a successful portrait art market in downtown Toronto in the 1980s. In great detail, Lien has also depicted friendships among urban neighbours, single women, and Asian Canadian artists. As Canadians have merged into mixed neighbourhoods, spiritual pursuits in individual lifestyles are shared socially as communal rituals.
