Book Launch & Conversation: Hope and Despair by Monia Mazigh

Join Mawenzi House Publishers for the launch of the second, revised edition of Hope and Despair: My Struggle to Free My Husband from a Black Site by Monia Mazigh.
Featuring a substantial new foreword reflecting on 25 years after the beginning of the War on Terror, this new edition revisits Mazigh’s powerful account of her struggle to free her husband from detention in Syria and the personal and political circumstances surrounding his ordeal.
For this special Ottawa event, Monia Mazigh will be joined by Alex Neve, Professor of International Human Rights at the University of Ottawa, for a conversation about Hope and Despair, human rights, and the continuing significance of the issues explored in the book.
The event will take place at the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre, 290 Lisgar Street, Ottawa, Ontario, on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at 6:00 PM.
Copies of Hope and Despair will be available for purchase on site from Octopus Books.
Admission is free. Reserve your spot using the registration link below.
