Celebrating the Montréal Launch of I Was Born with Sand in My Eyes by Moustapha Mohamed Chein September 23, 2026 – Posted in: Highlights, Poetry, Readings & Excerpts – Tags: , , , , , ,

On September 10, 2026, Mawenzi House Publishers joined readers, friends and members of Montréal’s literary community at Argo Bookshop to celebrate the launch of Moustapha Mohamed Chein’s poetry collection, I Was Born with Sand in My Eyes.

It was an evening of poetry, music, conversation, and community, bringing together readers to celebrate Moustapha and the arrival of his new collection.

Moustapha read selections from I Was Born with Sand in My Eyes, allowing the audience to experience the poems in the poet’s own voice. The reading opened into a lively conversation and Q&A, giving guests an opportunity to engage with Moustapha and learn more about the ideas and experiences behind his work.

Music was also part of the evening’s celebration, adding another layer to a gathering centred on poetry, storytelling and connection.

Following the reading and conversation, guests had the opportunity to meet Moustapha, continue the conversations sparked during the event and have their copies of I Was Born with Sand in My Eyes signed.

The launch was a wonderful celebration not only of a new book, but also of the communities that gather around literature and make books come alive beyond the page.

Mawenzi House extends our warmest thanks to Argo Bookshop for welcoming us, to everyone who attended and participated in the evening, and to all those who have supported Moustapha and I Was Born with Sand in My Eyes.

Most importantly, congratulations to Moustapha Mohamed Chein on the publication and successful Montréal launch of I Was Born with Sand in My Eyes. We are delighted to see the collection making its way into the hands of readers.
